I’m happy to report that I was able to finish quilting and binding these for the girls on the weekend. I started them a year ago and with Ava having just turned 8, I realized that I needed to finish them before they became too grown up for fairy tales!
The girls wanted one quilt to be Sleeping Beauty (Ava) and one to be Rapunzel (Georgia, shown above), so I wasn’t able to get as much colour variety as Kate Conklin did in the original pattern. To mitigate this, I supplemented the fairytale prints with linen/cotton from the Essex Linen by Robert Kaufman, and a few Quilter’s Linen options for the border squares and frames.
Using this pieced back tutorial (also from Kate Conklin’s site), I constructed the back using a variety of Echino linen/cotton blends and one of the Ruby Star Rising prints. I was trying to keep the entire quilt in linen/cotton, where possible, and the resulting quilt is so soft and cozy that these definitely won’t be my last linen/cotton blend quilts.
