A summer trip home to Ontario always includes a trip up to our family cottage, just north of the Muskokas. The girls brought their Bamboletta Little Buddies with them on the plane, and unbeknownst to them, their Oma had ordered Classic Dolls for them as gifts on their arrival. My Mother-in-Law had been diagnosed with terminal cancer last November, and wanted to give them an heirloom gift that they would remember from their last trip to see her. To support their enthusiasm for these special gifts, I thought it would be fun to make sleeping bags for their cottage trip.
I used the Flossie Teacakes pattern as a starting point, however, the medium and large patterns weren’t quite big enough for either doll. I cut each of the patterns down the center and added 1.5 inches to the center. For the large pattern and the Classic Doll, I also added 2 inches to the length. My suggestion, if you are considering altering these patterns, is to lay the beloved doll/stuffy recipient on the pattern to gauge how much height or width you should add down the center of the pattern. I LOVED these MOMO Oh Deer! fabrics, from Fabricworm, and thought they were cottage perfect, while still girly enough for my girls. I fussy cut the front and reverse sides, to show off the print, while also making each bag unique. I also attempted to outline quilt the fabric pattern on the larger sleeping bags – just don’t look too closely : ).
