My eldest turned 11 last week and we hosted a small machine sewing party for 6 of her friends. 4 of them take sewing classes at our LQS, Stitch and Bobbin, and the owner Stephanie, allowed me to borrow 2 of their machines for the party. The project we chose was Wooksy the owl, from Sew Cute to Cuddle. I scaled the pattern up by 2 X and we added an iPad / book pocket to the back of the stuffy.
In advance of the party, I cut out all of the owls, all of the felt pieces, and marked the placement of the felt pieces on all of the owl fronts. I also attached the owl tummies with Heat and Bond. My younger daughter and her friend completed the projects in advance, so I could get a sense of where the bottlenecks were. They are less experienced sewers than the older girls so I thought it would help me to understand best how to move things along.
Luckily, a friend of mine came to help supervise or I’m not sure we could have finished in 3 hours. Some of the girls took home the stuffing and hand sewing the opening steps of their project, but overall, they were very pleased with themselves and my daughter declared the party a success!
