We are headed somewhere sunny and the girls have the cutest red and white / navy and white swimsuit sets for the trip. Their plan is to spend most of the daylight hours at the pool – which works for us too!
I thought it would be nice for them to have a couple of cover up choices for getting to and from the pool. For one of the cover ups, I had several yards of this double gauze, reversible, checked fabric in my stash. It gave them the option to have slightly different versions of the same thing.
I used the Girls Kaftan Dress pattern from My Childhood Treasures. The girls wanted a longer, almost maxi dress type caftan so I lengthened the size 8 by 6 inches to cover them up to mid calve. I felt a full ankle length option might be a tripping hazard – especially when you added in flip flops. For better maneuverability, I did not extend the side seams all of the way down, and stopped them just below the knee. For reference, this mannequin stands a little more than 4 and 1/2 feet tall (~140 cm).
