I love this cotton lawn fabric, part of the Hello Kitty series by Liberty of London. Boy, has it been a while since I have done fussy sewing! Lawn is also not the best fabric for Canadian Winters, but the toy drums and trains in the print, were hard to resist! I ended up knitting a few cardigans to go with it to make sure they don’t freeze.
The girls are thrilled with the results, so I guess it was worth it. I was also reflecting that it may not be too much longer that they let me make fancy holiday dresses, so I’ll take it while I can get it.
The only mod I made was to use the same fabric from the collar and bow to bind the armhole instead of using the main fabric to self face the armhole. This was a bit tricky as the lawn fabric is very lightweight and slippery, but I liked the way it finished out. I’m a bit disappointed that I didn’t take the time to match up the back fabrics, so that the pattern appeared more ‘seamless’, however, the girls will never notice! And neither will Santa.
