We have been in our house for over 4 years, and I have loathed the vertical blinds in our bedroom from day 1. There are many things that we have wanted to change about our house, but unfortunately with a 17 year old house, the last few years have been about replacing the laundry appliances, kitchen appliances, furnace, and just recently, resurfacing our deck. This is the before of our Master Bedroom (shown with the previous owners furniture).
We have more of a Scandinavian Modern vision for the house and found this room very dark and formal. Our new wall colour is Farrow and Ball Elephant’s Breath and I like that it complements the fabric without being too ‘matchy-matchy’.
It had been a while since I made drapes, so I used this tutorial from the Sew Many Ways blog as a refresher. I purchased the Dwell Studio Vintage Blossom Citrine fabric on fabric.com during one of their big sales last year and it coordinates with my Dwell Chinoiserie duvet set. The drapes frame a fairly large sliding door (and arguably could have used triple or quadruple fabric width), so I was happy to find this hotel rod on sale at the Restoration Hardware site.
Next up in this room: I have to finish the 3 Roman Shades in the Dwell Vintage Blossom fabric and bind the quilt I made for the bed; MJP has to replace what we unaffectionately refer to as the ugliest sconces we have ever seen (shown in the before pic, very high up on the wall), with these new ones, also from Restoration Hardware.
And yes Mom, that is sunshine you seen through the window. Sometimes that happens on the West Coast, even in Deep Cove ;-p.
