Sometimes, I miss not having boys to sew or knit for. A friend at work and his wife recently had their second baby, and given that this friend is a big hockey fan / player, I thought this would help them cheer on our teams in the upcoming Olympics. The yarn is Debbie Bliss Rialto, purchased at Urban Yarns in North Vancouver. I broke a rule and bought yarn for this project, however, I am feeling justified when I see the results : ).
For the sweater, the pattern was the #214 Baby Pullover pattern from Diane Souncy. The modifications I made were to start with a black stripe, then switch to 4 rows red, 2 rows white and to only complete 5 rows of stocking stitch in black for the neck. I used a duplicate stitch and the chart from Maple Leaf Mittens by Michele Meadows to create the motif on the front. Also did jogless stripes per the Purl Bee blog.
The pattern for the skates was from Ice Hockey Skates by Irish Hooks & Yarn.
