serger fun (finally)

I have had my Bernina 1150 serger for 3 years, but other than serging knits before I washed them, hadn’t trusted it with projects. Though I had translated the Farbenmix Laura pattern 6 months ago, our busy life this spring, had left these projects in the ‘to do’ sewing bin.  The leggings were from the Ottobre 2/2013 pattern magazine, and it wasn’t until they were completed that I realized the girls had gone up a size during the months in between!

The fabrics came from the sale section of the Ottobre etsy store, while the stripes were the campan knits. Overall, I am pleased with the results. The girls have assured me that the shorter pants fit more easily in to the boots (rain or fancy) that they often wear to school. When making two of the same pattern, I usually follow the same steps for each concurrently. However, given that there were two different thread colours involved, switching back and forth multiple times between the twin needle of my regular machine, and the serger, made this impractical.

Having struggled a bit with the twin needle hemming on this project, I am longing for the Janome Coverstitch CPX1000. We will see what Santa (or Mother’s Day) brings!
