Borrowing heavily from a Lil Boo Blue party concept (and using the Stephanie Corfee graphics, available in the Lil Boo Blue shop), we recently threw a 9th birthday party for our eldest daughter.
A couple of things I did copy, straight from their blog:
- doll sized salon capes – 107 metres of bias tape later, I am happy to never apply it again!
- purchased 2 salon chairs from amazon.
- doll sized salon dresses for 2 of the dolls, set up on doll mannequins.
- dollar store was my closest ally in supplying hair accessories for the doll salon and loot bags.
- concept of the photo booth.
Some things I did a bit differently:
- used Adobe software to customize the apron’s and doll sized capes for each of the attendees.
- skipped a lot of the decorations – I am just not that crafty!
- had a running video of hair tips from the American Girl site.
- hired feel fabulous company for the Sweet and Sassy hair salon package.
I have tried many girl party concepts over the years and this was the girls’ favourite yet! Not only did they feel really fancy after, but they also had a wonderful time doing doll hair styles while waiting for their turn in the salon chairs. The photo booth was a HUGE hit and I will find a way to incorporate this into another party going forward. A was thrilled and all of the girls were very excited with their end results. (There were 14 girls there, however, I have only shown our family members here).

siblings – i love this shot because A is normally so shy she won’t kid around!
- birthday girl – uncharacteristically goofy!
