organic mobile quilts

Post image for organic mobile quilts

I’m am not nearly as far along in my sewing goals for this summer as I’d like to be. July was busier than I expected, August started with a visit from family, and I have also been sidetracked by a few new projects.

And yes, that breaks my goal of no new stash – but only for one of the projects (more on this later). I was however, able to finally finish the organic mobile quilts, based on the pattern by Kate Conklin and I’m super happy with the results. They are for my cousin’s daughter, Meredith (3) and son, Nolan (1). The gifts were a group effort as I pieced them, my elder sister Sharon (with some help from our visiting Auntie Donna) hand quilted them, while my sister Betsy knit a coordinating green elephant and a purple giraffe in the lovely Lanica yarn.

The organic feature fabrics came all the way from Australia, from the amazing Sprout Design shop. I used some Kaffe Fassett striped fabric scraps to frame them and ended up completing mitered corners on the frames to best highlight the stripes – (tutorial on this to follow).

I really love the finished products and the matching / but not matching sister & brother feel to them.
